Golders Green Area Guide

Golders Green is a desirable north-west London neighbourhood in the borough of Barnet that many people like to call home. The vibrant suburb is popular with renters and buyers because of its diverse community, large family homes, small flats and leafy streets. In addition, Golders Green tube station has fast and frequent transport links to central London.

Golders Green became a residential neighbourhood in the early 20th century, and many of the properties reflect that affluent era. Large houses were built in the 1920s and 1930s, when Arts and Crafts and Art Deco architectural styles heavily influenced house building. As the suburb grew, it became home to a sizeable Jewish community. These days, there is also a strong Korean and Japanese population in the area.

Many of the properties in Golders Green are spacious four to seven-bedroom semi-detached or detached homes. These spacious residences typically feature large front and rear gardens and private off-street parking. Golders Green also has flats in various styles, including some in converted houses, others in 30s blocks, and some in modern blocks of flats.

Golders Green’s excellent transport links have helped make the area so desirable. Two underground stations — Golders Green and Brent Cross — have speedy links to central London. Both stations are on the Northern Line and are located in Zone 3. For commuters, the journey time to London Euston is 15 minutes or 30 minutes to Victoria.

In addition to the underground network, there is an excellent bus service taking commuters to Marble Arch, Waterloo and Chelsea.

For families living in Golders Green, all the schools in the area are judged to be “good” or “outstanding”. Notable primary schools include Garden Suburb Infants and Juniors, Brookland Infants and Juniors, and the Jewish state primary Menorah in The Drive. For secondary education, excellent co-ed schools are Whitefield, Christ’s College and Hendon School.

What’s there to do in Golders Green? Golders Hill Park has a small zoo, water gardens, and a playground. There are also many shops and restaurants serving Jewish, Japanese, and Korean cuisines.
